He's only missed the Laguna Seca round of AMA Superbike and MotoGP once in the last decade. On weekends, he's a Motorcycle Safety Foundation instructor. He once hocked a pile of belongings to pay for a trip to see the Isle of Man TT. In other words, Bill Seltzer, 33, of Tempe, Arizona, is like a lot of AMA members: passionate about motorcycles.
And while he says he appreciates anything on two wheels, he has a special interest in sportbikes. Now, Seltzer owns the original sportbike, a beautifully restored 1953 Vincent Series C Black Shadow (shown above). Seltzer's name was drawn Saturday during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days as the winner of the annual Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum raffle.
"Holy smokes, I cannot believe this!" was Seltzer's initial reaction.
"I don't ever enter these things," he said after the news sunk in, "but a Vincent Black Shadow is too good to pass up. I go to rallies and races and I've never even seen one."
Now he owns one.
Seltzer took advantage of the five-for-the-price-of-four deal and bought five raffle tickets online for $20, including the one drawn at VMD by Grand Marshal Jay Springsteen.
For everyone else, there's another chance. This year's Vincent was such a popular choice for the annual raffle, another one will has been chosen for the 2008 Museum raffle. The 2008 Vincent raffle bike is the same one that was given away in 2005, and the winner sold the motorcycle back to the Museum to be raffled off again.
The winner will be drawn at 2008 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. Get your tickets now.
