Jeremy McGrath Nac Nac sculpture unveiled

With hundreds of onlookers, including the man himself, Jeremy McGrath, the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum on July 26 unveiled a bronze sculpture commissioned by Supercross series promoter Live Nation to honor the legendary rider.

"Our company wanted to do something as a tribute" to the man who brought Supercross's popularity to what it is today, said Roy Janson, vice president of operations for Live Nation just before the checkered-flag-patterned cloth was pulled from the bronze statue.

The statue shows McGrath doing a "Nac Nac," hanging off one side of the bike during a jump over a Supercross finish line. The sculpture was crafted by artist Steve Posson of Atascadero, California. It took four months to complete.

The Nac Nac is among the first, if not the first, tricks done by a rider on a Supercross bike. McGrath said he decided to do it during a race because "it was basically me getting bored and looking for something to do." He raced BMX bikes before getting into Supercross and decided to incorporate BMX tricks into his motorcycle riding.

"It did its job," he said of the Nac Nac. "It brought more attention to me and to Honda."

Although retired from racing, McGrath, the winningest Supercross racer of all time with seven AMA Supercross championships and 72 wins, still does testing for Honda.
