Richard Sanders, a recently appointed member of the Museum's board of directors and an AMA Life Member, died May 28 in Houston. He was 62.
Sanders joined the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation Board of Directors, which oversees the Museum, in February. He attended his first Board meeting earlier this year.
"Richard was a recent addition to our Motorcycle Hall of Fame Board of Directors and we were looking forward to many years of his involvement," said Board Chairman Stan Simpson. "Richard brought new insight to our Board as a highly successful motorcycle dealer and a human being with a great passion for the heritage of our sport. He will be missed by all of us."
Sanders established several multi-line motorcycle dealerships in Texas over the years and also built the Conroe Motocross Park in Conroe, Texas. His first dealership was Cycle Shack of Houston, which he launched in 1969 and sold in 1999 to singer Lyle Lovett.
Sanders was also an avid collector of antique motorcycles and cars and was active in numerous charities.
