European motorcycles take center stage at Museum

Story and photos by Bill Kresnak

Bimota, BMW, BSA, Ducati, Norton and even Vespa were represented in the bike show or parking lot of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum's inaugural British & European Motorcycle Weekend, presented by DomiRacer Distributors, June 9-10 in Pickerington, Ohio.

Riders braved morning rain to show up for the event, the second of three planned this summer at the popular motorcycling destination. The weekend before, Japanese motorcycle enthusiasts turned out to see and learn about their favorite machines.

During the British & European Motorcycle Weekend, enthusiasts enjoyed an unjudged bike show with classes for vintage through modern machines, as well as seminars on topics such as pre-war BMW design, AHRMA road racing on a Ducati single, the trials and tribulations of a BMW collector, the design and technology of the BMW R90S, and the history of Triumph motorcycles.

The third of the three Museum Classic Saturdays this summer will be the Custom and Cruiser Culture Saturday on August 19.

Pristine machines like this Triumph were a big hit during the bike show, which featured British and European machines from earlier days to the modern era.

BMW was well represented at the event, both in the bike show and at the booth set up by the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners.

Seminars were an important part of the event. Here, author Lindsay Brooke discusses the history of Triumph motorcycles.

This clean, lean and rare Bimota attracted a lot of attention.

AMA Road Riding and Special Events Director Frank Covucci and his son, Frank Jr., were on hand to check out the British and European hardware.

What's more European than a Vespa?
