Malcom!

Remember that scene from "On Any Sunday" in which Malcolm Smith is mopping up the competition in the Elsinore Grand Prix? As other riders wallow through an increasingly huge mud hole, movie director Bruce Brown's aerial camera shot shows Smith spotting a route around the bog, zipping past the floundering mortals, and cleanly racing on to victory, all without ever getting off the gas.

That scene illustrated the difference between regular riders (most of us) and the riding gods (guys like Malcolm Smith) who have the skills to make the apparently impossible look easy.

Malcom LambrettaBut Malcolm Smith is more than just the co-star of perhaps the best motorcycling movie ever made. He's a multi-time Baja winner, an eight-time gold medalist in the International Six Day Trials and has won his share of races on four wheels, too. He's a successful businessman. And, in his own quiet way, he's a philanthropist who has made meaningful contributions to communities in Mexico he has raced through.

Malcolm!, presented by Tucker Rocky, is an exhibit that honors all sides of Malcolm Smith's legendary career. It is currently on display in the Hall of Legends at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.

"With his racing and charitable work, Smith has raised the stature of the entire motorcycling industry," said Museum Executive Director Mark Mederski. "We are proud to feature his story in the Hall of Legends."

Malcom ribbon ceremonyThe exhibit includes a Lambretta scooter like Smith's first bike, the Husqvarna 400 he rode in "On Any Sunday," motorcycles he rode in competition ranging from the Elsinore Grand Prix to the International Six Day Trials, and on up through one of his modern race bikes. It also features memorabilia from Smith's career, much of it loaned to the Museum by the Hall of Famer himself, including trophies, medals, jerseys and other gear.
